July 14 (UPI) — Zion Williamson hasn’t chosen a college yet, but he recently chose to embarrass an opponent with a thunderous block.
Williamson, 17, pulled off the rejection at the Adidas Gauntlet Finals in Spartanburg, S.C. He plays for Spartanburg Day School.
He has been the subject of many dunk highlight videos recently, but his stunt Thursday might be his best play yet. An opponent dribbled down the court and soared toward the rim on the play. Williamson gave chase and jumped up from behind, throwing both of his arms in the air. He blocked the ball with both hands, but hit his head on the backboard.
Williamson was lucky to avoid injury on the play, as his leg bent awkwardly under his body during the fall.
The top recruit is considering Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina and Clemson for college. He is the second ranked recruit in the nation, behind Marvin Bagley III, who has been playing in the Drew League.
Williamson is listed at 6-foot-7 and is about 230 pounds. He scored 31 points in SC Supreme’s 72-66 win in the finals this week in South Carolina, according to Slam Magazine.
He recently told The State that he wants to get his college decision “out of the way.”
“I just want to win another championship and hopefully pick my college before the season starts so I can get that out of the way,” Williamson told The State. “Right now, I’m looking at a lot of schools. I’m probably not going to make a list. I’m going to pick a school when it feels right.”
